MOUNTAIN ZEN DEN ~ Episode 136 – Horses and Eating Disorders with Lisa Whalen

MZD Podcast – Ep. 136 – Horses and Eating Disorders with Lisa Whalen

We say it all the time, MZD is about connecting with Nature for mindfulness and personal growth, particularly in becoming the best version of yourself.

We are finding that Nature is a fantastic catalyst for helping us become our best selves.  Our relationship with Nature, and her healing power comes in many different forms.

At times we tend to get too confined in our definition of what connecting with Nature, actually means — picturing it only happening when we are in the mountains, or park, or in the woods, or maybe by a stream or lake, soaking in the sounds of birds singing and water flowing.

Today’s show is a little different than many of the episodes we have released in the past.  If you, or someone you know is struggling with an eating disorder, loves horses, or is a writer, you’re going to be glad you discovered this episode!

Author Lisa Whalen shares her story of recovery from an eating disorder she developed as a teenager and how horses and Nature helped her overcome this spirit-crushing, destructive cycle.

She offers how the act of riding horses helps you stay in the present moment and can be a meditative experience.   They helped her find balance and face her fears, developing confidence, and overcoming her eating disorders, while dealing with perfectionism, and opening up to the healing process.

The fact is, horses are very sensitive, and tuned in to energy, wanting relationship and connection.  We have seen this not only with individuals dealing with eating disorders, but other challenges and struggles as well, including those dealing with PTSD and autism.

In her down-to-Earth, clear and gentle way Lisa opens the door for us to enter into relationship with yet another aspect of Nature.

Come on in…
